Getting in Canada

Applying for Live-In-Caregiver

You can apply to come to Canada as a live-in-caregiver. You need to get an offer of employment from a family or household requiring your services for childcare or assisting elderlies. For this you need completion of one year of full time paid employment in that field of occupation, within three years from the date of your application for work permit to the visa office or 6 months in class training for this particular subject matter. You should also be willing to live in a household for two years performing your duties. Your knowledge of one of the official languages should be such that you will be able to function independently. If you satisfy all the requirements you can be granted residency to stay in Canada as a resident enjoying all the rights of a permanent resident. Taking this free assessment test helps us in advising you what option suits you best.

Applying under Family Class

If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada 18 years or older, you can sponsor your relatives and their family members to become permanent resident. Sponsors have an obligation to support their family member for a period of three years up to ten years depending on type of relative they sponsor. Relatives can be:
spouses or common law partners;
parents and grandparents;
dependent children, including adopted children;
children under 18 years of age whom you intend to adopt;
brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces or grandchildren who are orphans; under the age of 18 and not married or in a common-law relationship; or
you may also sponsor one relative of any age if you do not have an aunt, uncle or family member from the above list.

Applying under Provincial Nominee Program

Most of provinces have an agreement with the federal government of Canada to select their own candidates who wish to immigrate and settle in that province. Provinces have their own selection criteria based on their needs. Once a candidate is nominated by the province, a certificate of acceptance is issued by the province accepting you as an immigrant candidate. Once equipped with this acceptance, an immigration application is processed though CIC.

Applying under Skilled Worker Program

There are two categories under skilled worker program, Simplified and Normal.
Under Simplified you hand in your application and wait for the respective Visa office to tell you when to send the documents, which is usually quite a bit of time.
Under Normal one you hand in your applications and documents along with your arranged employment contract approved by HRSDC. This process is much faster as you are employed by a Canadian company reducing your processing waiting time by more than 60%.
Under either category, you will be first assessed by six selection criteria:
Education, official languages, experience, age, arranged employment and adaptability. Each one carries certain number of points. You need to have a minimum of 67 points to qualify under this program.
Languages are English and French. To get the best score you need to take a test in one of the testing institutions recognized by CIC. As well the experience can only count if it is in skill type 0 or level A or B defined by National Occupation classification of Canada.
You also need certain amount of fund for settlement in Canada .To fully realize your potential you can use this free assessment test. This can help us in advising you which option suits you best.
