Transit Visa

This section provides information and requirements for transit visa application for seafarers joining vessel in Norway.

Is the purpose of your trip to join a vessel in Norway, Denmark or Iceland?
If you are a seafarer travelling straight to the vessel you may apply for a Schengen Transit visa, which will be valid for 5 days.

How long is the processing time for a Seaman’s transit visa?
The processing time is 4-5 days upon submission of a complete application.

How long can a seaman stay in Schengen on a transit visa?
As this is a transit visa it does not allow any longer stay within the Schengen area, and the seafarer has to join the vessel within the five days stipulated in the visa.

How does the processing of my application take place?
When your application and all the required documents have been received in good order by our Embassy, the processing and evaluation of the application will start. When all the required documents (see list below) has been submitted (including the signed confirmation letter/ telefax from the Principal) the Embassy can decide whether a transit visa can be issued.

How can the Schengen visa application document be obtained?
The application documents can be obtained as follows:

  • Download the Schengen application form in the right-hand side menu.
  • Upon your request an application document can be sent to you through e-mail as an attachment (emb.manila@mfa.no), and may be stored in your computer for future use.

Please note that the Embassy will no longer be able to hand out paper-versions of the Schengen Application form to the Manning Agents. All applications should be completed through computer by the Manning Agent prior to signature and submission to the Embassy.

How should the Schengen visa application form be completed?
The Manning Agent should be the one to download and complete the form, by typing in all information in bold letters on the computer before printing. All information given in the application form should be checked prior to submission by the Manning Agent and by the seafarer himself. It is important that all questions in the form is filled in correctly, and that all applications are SIGNED by the seafarer/applicant prior to submission. Non-compliance to these requirements will delay the processing of the application.

How can the application documents be submitted?
The application documents for a seaman’s transit visa can be submitted by the applicant in person to the Embassy in Manila or Consulate in Cebu, or submitted by a representative of the applicant. The Embassy can not accept any applications submitted through e-mail/scanned documents or through telefax. Upon submission the applicant/representative will receive a Claim Stub, which should be presented upon pick-up of the visa.

Payment : The visa fee is Php 4,000 in form of MANAGER'S CHECK payable to THE ROYAL NORWEGIAN EMBASSY and will be due upon submission of the application. Cash payment will no longer be accepted.
