There are seven different student visa subclasses available. Four of these apply to students studying at University level.
1. Student Visa 573 - Higher Education
This visa allows you to study a Bachelor Degree, Graduate Certificate, or Graduate Diploma or any Masters by coursework.
2. Student Visa 574 - Postgraduate Research
This visa allows you to study any Masters by research or a Doctoral degree.
3. Student Visa 575 - Non-Award
This visa is for students on study abroad or exchange programs, as well as any other non-award course.
If you change your degree at the University of Wollongong , you will need to check if it is in the same visa subclass, otherwise you will need a new visa. For example to change from a Masters by coursework to a Master by research degree requires a new student visa as they are in different visa subclasses.

This visa is for students enrolled in full-time courses of any type undertaken by an AusAID or Defence student sponsored by the Australian Government.
570 - Independent ELICOS
571 - Schools
572 - Vocational Education and Training (VET)
573 - Higher Education
574 - Postgraduate Research
575 - Non-award (including non-award foundation study)
